Crafting is well and truely ****** in BoL

Tekka, I feel that Live servers IS their main test server. They try the patch on their internal(only for developers) and then once it looks like it might work, they go Live with it and finetune or adjust from there.

All wildly speculated, of course, but hey, fits what we have seen from SoE and its successors after all.

 

Bottom line: it's not just about a lack of content. They don't even have the staff to produce a game that works.

after being a Ghost for a longtime on this forum i finally say Hello..ironically when the state of the game looks more like a farewell...

After being and reading a lot on Discord and on the OF it seems that Gninja is the first Dev to realize that more, more and moarr Stat inflations and DPS means that Raidcontent has come to its limits. Buffs don't apply properly anymore as there are so many digits now. There is a Raidencounter (3 Nameds) whos HP is so high that you need 16 hours for 1 of the 3 nameds to kill...


The RNG on top of an RNG combined with an RNG has the funny effect that some player/accounts i know got 2-4 Red Rune recipes, while others, like me, get frequently a Essence of Chaos, (literally) hundreds of Fragments and Harvest mats as "Rewards" from Overseer Missions.

This is like watching a trainwreck in very slow motion. I hate to see it happening, but I loved Norrath for so long, that I have to be watching when it dies, though I will cry over it. Its ending is not my doing, though.

 

I really feel for Gninja because I think he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Back in the days when I had time to do testing and beta I had a lot of time for him because he was always helpful, friendly and communicative. I think he still actually cares and would like to fix some of this stuff for us but the higher ups won't let him as it's not part of their 'vision'. And I suspect it's sheer frustration that leads to his occasional outbursts on the forums. I get the impression he's been trying his best with the crafting quests he got dumped with but it's not going to come easy to him because he is actually a raider and raid content dev and raiding and crafting are two completely different animals.

 

I've never really had an issues with Gninja. He rubs some folks the wrong way, but like Dano mentioned, he'll usually take the time to explain problems and fixes. I also like Chrol and Kaitheel. They get on stuff and communicate about it.

That leaves three people doing most of the damage (imo).

 

The ONLY part of Tradeskilling he has any authority over is the Sig Line, full stop. And even there he didn't have a free hand.
Pretty much every other aspect (itemization, recipes, shadow prospecting, researcher quests, etc) is Caith. Caith has a demonstrated attitude towards players.. and a worse one towards all things TS related

 

Kaitheel is out of the same mold as Domino and he's an absolute dream to test for.

 

They need a new dev in charge then.

So, Benito's theory is this:

People are using ts boosts to make pocket provisioners and sages, which is causing the shortage of advanced books for these 2 classes.

He then goes on to talk about the "statistical reasoning" method of argument he learned from me.

Then he speculates that the guy/gal calling him out for the same nonsense we did is in fact myself, Tekka, Mermut, or Zynt on a sock account.

Eventually, he settles on Mermut, so congrats to the badger.

Benito's responder made a technically correct point that exposed some laziness of a practitioner (me).

In short, all statistical reasoning is probabilistic, but not all probabilistic reasoning is statistical.

I tend to use the terms interchangeably because I always have data to create probabilities.

However, applying subjective probability and applying probabilistic logic/reasoning is not statistical reasoning in the academic sense.

It's true that statistical analysis and statistical reasoning are not the same things, however it would have been accurate for me to characterize the eq2 stuff is using probabilistic reasoning.

Just wanted to clarify that and apologize for it
