My traceroutes end at a level3 seitch in Las Vegas headed to census.daybreakgames.com.  Is this an unexpected outage, or can others reach it still?

There was a maintenance for other parts of our services, but this *should not* have affected census.daybreakgames.com.  If it has, I need to go knock some heads.

If you could provide more information - time, URLs tried, etc. - that would be very helpful.

The time frame was from about 10 minutes before I sent the post to the time I sent the post.  The outage from my point of view (and the "is it down for just me or everyone site :) was complete.  I could not reach any census.daybreakgames.com servers during the rather short outage, so any census.daybreakgames.com URL timed out at the TCP layer.

If your traceroutes ended at level3 you can pretty much rest assured that it was all level3, frankly I do not understand how that company has not went under, the service is absolutely terrible.

I don't think this was level3 entirely.  While I cannot trace back from Sony's network obviously, I do see different paths from home and from my colo's network.

Colo is <us> level3 switchnap, while home is cox twtelecom switchnap.  Niether path worked, but this doesn't account for asymetric routing of course.  I'd have to see a traceroute from one of the census.daybreakgames.com boxes to know if the path I see is the return path as well.

level3 managed to get the packets all teh way to just before switchnap, and last night mine stoped in the hop just before switchnap as well, so I'm not sure level3 is to blame this time.

Not enough information the first time, may not have been them in that case.

Just had a lot of personal abd business problems with thier service latency mostly, but lots of packet loss issues too.

I did not notice any outage, but it was a tiny window and I might not have been doing anything.

I got a response from our operations team (sorry it took so long, multiple things going on today)...

There was a scheduled maintenance on the switch in our data center.  It was supposed to be "non-impacting".  We are awaiting the reasons on why it wasn't.

I am not always notified of maintenances...I'll try to get more info in the future.

    Thanks for investigating.

I'm spoiled I guess, my personal box has 4 gig-e ports on two different switches.  And that's the slowest part of my network.  Yep, spoiled.

    Have you tested your UPS recently? <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

It's tested weekly, and has a generator to back it up, also tested weekly.  :)
