As an addendum to this post, I wanted to really pile on more thanks and praise on the particpants in the developer program.  I am very happy how this group of folks have come together to work together to build stuff on the API.  While you may be competitors at some level, you have all shown a willingness to raise the bar productively.  As they say, a rising tide raises all boats (or something like that).  I hope each of you is seeing this.

My leaving is all about the opportuntity that I will be going to.  I will be joining General Motors in a rather significant role.

I don't think that I will have much access to the forum after Friday, but I will find ways to poke and prod people to keep up with the API.  As I mention in the other post...this has become quite center to the plans of our upcoming games.  Look for more and more data to come.  If you don't see it, then demand it.  Your voices are being heard.

It has truly been a pleasure.  Thanks!

    Dan,

I've worked with dozens of API's over the course of my career.  I'll have to say that the SOE API is one of the most well rounded and full featured that I have seen.  I hate to see you leave for fear of seeing this project die.  I hope SOE realizes the potential of this API and continues to support it and provides the community (us) another face man to work with.

If you aren't rolling in a Chevy Camaro ZL1 within a few weeks of moving to GM you don't have a hair on your rear.  Good luck with the new job.

    Dan,

Will you be visiting the forums as a guest and checking up on activity? I'd love to be able to let you know once my project gets kicked off so that you can see all your hard work exmplified in many ways.

We'll miss ya bud. I hope they are giving you a free car. =)

Thanks lokiracer.  I will be driving many GM cars, including the Camaro I'm sure.

I am not sure how much I'll be checking in, but I will be watching.  I've recruited a number of folks to help make sure our momentum continues.

[Removed for Content].  Will they all have to share your old office? :)

And I was hoping to shake Dan's hand at Fan Faire. <img src="/station/images/smilies/1cfd6e2a9a2c0cf8e74b49b35e2e46c7.gif" border="0" /> Well let us know who's picking up the reins and I'll buy them a frosty beverage or two in Vegas (if they make it). I figure I owe Zoltaroth a litre of some sort of spirits by now.

I was hoping to meet up with folks at [strikethru]Fan Faire[/strikethru] SOE Live too.  Please give extra liquids to Zoltaroth.

One of the true pleasures working in this role was my proximity to actual customers - both in electronic form and in person at the Fan Faire.  I'm not saying that to be sappy - I really mean it.  I think it is something that is missing in the era of digital products and services.

It makes an engineer more accountable if they have an actual name and face to put to a problem.  It makes the solution that much better when it is designed in the context of real people, not just a whiteboard (not that I don't like whiteboards).

    So...this is it.

After now, I will not have the ability to make changes or even access the forums.  If you have issues, you can escalate things by sending an email to [url="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected][/url].

    All the best folks!  Truly.
