duplicate name/world tuples

From my examination of game data I can retrieve, I see a fair number of duplicated (name, world) tuples, one as many as 7 times.

A further examination of the first one on the list shows ids which are very close to one another, identical class (beastlord), but varing races.  I susect this is someone making, trying out that race's starting warder, then moving on to another one.  However, it is a little odd that all these duplicates are in the database, since wouldnt they have to be deleted to make a new one with the same name?

looks like different languages..

 

What makes you think it's languages?  One (name, world) tuple is repeated 7 times, but the name is always the same...

What's the REST call you're looking at?  I believe dupe character names were brought up already.. something about mergers and char deletions, etc  may be causing it.  Since I don't know which collection you're looking at, I'm only guessing here..

 

It's just the character collection.  There isn't a single query to issue to find a duplicate character (name, world) tuple.

I think it's likely time to let the SoE people figure out what is going on, and we should just handle this oddball case in our client-side use of this data.  Overall, there are only a few hundred at most out of a lot of characters, I suspect.

That said, I don't think server merges can account for all of these duplicates.

 

Wait, I thought this looked familiar, you already went over this and Dan already responded..  The older dated items are indeed deleted toons (either by manual deletion or by character transfers/mergers)
