Im just curious how other are recreating the backgrounds behind the item icons as shown in the in-game examine window. My application can determine what color the background should be based on various factors (i.e. Tier, item type, etc) but I can't get the texture to look right and I'm out of ideas. Have you somehow sampled the texture and re-used it? Or are you a graphic guru and have recreated it from scratch?

    Thanks!

Download the DDS Plugin for Photoshop and go dumpster diving in UIDefaultimages. (Yoda) Find there amazing stuff you will.

On EQ2U, I actually do not vary the background color for item icons based on item tier. Nobody pointed out that I was doing it wrong until 11 months later when I got a PM from Uberfuzzy. It's now on my To Do list after Green Adorns and a few dozen other things.

The way I did it was to grab them from screenshots after editing my icon dds files to make the icons transparent. The graphic is in the dds files, however, it's recoloured in-game, so recreating it in Photoshop would be a lot of trial-and-error.

I just noticed this, though: item tier alone doesn't determine the background colour - you also have to look at the tier id number. I've only looked at furniture, but so far, Handcrafted is the only one that's different (it can be grey, green, or blue). Other tiers have multiple ID numbers, but the background colours are the same. It could vary with other types of items.

I may turn Fabled slots to red, and Mythical slots to purple on our Character Details page, just so you can see at-a-glance what tier your gear is. But I'm not sure it adds much in the Item Examine windows.

http://eq2mission.flame.org  does color the backgrounds.  I just made my own colored tiles and use them, as it was easier than stealing them from eq2 (and I didn't want to hit any IP problems)

The AA icons aren't in the feed, so they had to come from somewhere. ;) Numerous sites including EQ2 Wikia and EQ2 ZAM use real spell and item icons.
