Will Daybreak games shut down in 2 months?

One more nugget from Smart's big post:

"5) The layoffs announced (with more to come) were part of the strategy to wind down ops and limit the financial exposure ahead of the June deadline. The events ARE connected – and I expect the other shoe will drop very shortly because there’s more to come."

In my day job, I have been involved with letting people go. I know first hand there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes - revoking access, changing credentials, making sure someone doesn't react poorly and destroys data before leaving, etc. It doesn't happen auto-magically, and it takes time. When you have that many at once, it takes more time. While it's not impossible these layoffs were a reaction to the H1Z1 lackluster launch, I absolutely don't buy it. It would have to be pretty catastrophic for something like that to be that fast.

I hope the staff is preparing themselves for the worst, even if they are telling the community everything is fine.

Well now, that would be extremely interesting indeed. Thiel has a history with New Zealand - he bought citizenship here after only being in the country for a total of 12 days, then bought a big chunk of prime real estate. He has never been back since. Requirements for citizenship here are:

To be eligible for a grant of citizenship, you must meet the following criteria*:
►you are entitled to reside indefinitely in New Zealand; AND you have been present in New Zealand:
•for at least 1,350 days with New Zealand residence during the 5 years immediately before you make
    your application; and
•for at least 240 days with New Zealand residence in each of those 5 years; and
•fully met any conditions imposed by Immigration New Zealand (INZ) in regard to your residence status

‘New Zealand residence’ means you have a residence visa or a permanent residence visa issued by INZ or
you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident or you are a New Zealand citizen by descent.

    ►you are of good character

►you understand the responsibilities and privileges of New Zealand citizenship

►you are able to understand and speak English

►you intend to continue to reside in New Zealand, if granted citizenship

It was done quietly by the Minister of Immigration at the time - once NZers got wind of it, revocation was demanded, but there was push-back by the Minister of Immigration. One wonders how much of a bribe he took....We (ordinary NZers) don't want anyone here like that.

    Thiel news article

PS: I notice that the forum 'bubble gnomes' have gone awfully quiet since this bull-pukky hit the fan....while a lot of that has to do with every post and thread about it being instantly deleted so nothing to defend, even she-with-a-stick-up-her-arse is being very circumspect in her replies to other posters on other matters....

Wow, I know the forums are on some weirdo, excessive delete-all-the-things lockdown this week, but man, they killed a thread saying goodbye to the forum mob that wrote the guidelines up - Dexella. I didn't see what was in it, maybe it went off the rails - but c'mon, at least leave the goodbye and lock it?

    What garbage.

Nope, it was just a "sorry to hear you are one of the unfortunates" and it linked her Twitter announcement. One reply managed to get in, showing appreciation for Dexella, then boom. Gone.

They are deleting EVERYTHING. I don't understand what they're trying to accomplish here, they're just making themselves look bad and potentially driving customers away. Maybe they don't care.

Because we (player and ex player, its a pretty little bubble..) know the situation, but from an outside look.. everything is fine.

The censure about any connection with Russian company have the same purpose, like the layoff. Make the company more suitable for an acquisition.

I am currently downloading the free trial for FFXIV, after cancelling my sub and removing my credit card details from my EQ2 account this morning.

Everyone at DBG needs to go, especially the (grossly incompetent) management and senior devs. Then hopefully another company that understands and appreciates what EQ2 et al was and could be will pick up the IP, and reboot the games, preferably into a better direction.

I do hope ttobey gets to go with EQ2 to a new owner though....I have a real soft spot for him.

Regarding the kerfluffle, MJ hit it the nail on the head:

Either they lied about Columbus Nova being the owner, and were compelled to correct the record when the news about sanctions forced them to do it, or...

Columbus Nova was actually an owner, and they lied to cover it up.

    Either way: Lies.

If you were a Star Citizen backer then you would recognized the Warlord straight away :) He always provides a great read but for the truth we have to wait to the 5th of June. Interestingly the effected companies have to file there wind up plans within 10 working days from one of the orders. Not sure what the start date was for that.
PS. The Star Citizen fan boys don't like Derek much as he is a bit of Gnome Bubble burster :)

Not only am I not holding my breath, but I don't, nor will I trust them ever again. As long as the current team remains, all of the things we don't love will continue and probably be multiplied.

Even if EQ2 makes it to another expansion, the game we all fell in love with has been gone for a very long time and it isn't coming back. Any one sticking around is only going to meet with continued disappointment until one day they pull the plug without warning.

I am glad that I am not paying or playing any more.

She doesn't even care enough to spend 2min making unique posts for EQ and EQ2. Or to proofread it apparently.

    Too busy either:

    1) Streaming a non-DBG game. She's currently hosting Autenil on Twitch, and he's the "Technical Director of H1Z1 at DBG". At least he streams his own game. She's too busy playing League of Legends or Stardew Valley when she streams. They'll all probably end up trying to become full-time streamers once their jobs go poof.

    2) Polishing up her resume, then realizing that putting DBG down as her current employer might not look so great to future employers.

    3) Too busy hitting refresh to see what thread she needs to delete.

This whole thing just makes me sad.
It is frustrating for a current player (been playing since Desert of Flames) that is enjoying the game for these shenanigans to be happening. Our guild finally got to start raiding 2 months ago, our dps sucks but we are having fun.
I can only hope for the best, but really am expecting the worst........:(

Incompetent garbage too. They didn't even delete it properly. You can still see the title and author on the first page under gen discussion, but if you click on it it goes to an error page.
