I know it's not exactly fair, but I read that and my brain translated it into: We didn't have time to finish it, so it won't be in at launch.

As a player on Fallen Gate I absolutely hate they try to P2W their way into getting us TLE players to preorder. The new Illusion is are insanely good stat wise and the XP increases for tradeskilling and adventure/AA sucks for a "legacy server" .. So much for being a progression or legacy server.

I understand they want players on the most active server to buy their new toy, but doing it this way irritates the crap out of me honestly.

Saw absolutely nothing in their presentation that stimulated any desire on my part to buy the expansion.

All I saw more of the same reasons I stopped playing. The p2w and grind happy crowd can have it.

    I'm not interested.

It does make me laugh that Tradeskilling is obviously ****ed with no Domino about.

Sounds like they had an intern write up 10 levels of recipes and create a writ "Make 3 of X and 3 of Y" or "Make 2 X, 2 Y, 2 Z".

I've played very, very little in the beta so far, but so far I'm not impressed.

The first group I started with had two (maybe three?) quests for me before I am now stuck having to grind repeatable quests until I have enough faction that someone else will talk to me. I was on the beta server (buffed toon, not my copy which hasn't showed up) for about 20 whole minutes before I had to start repeating quests.

No tradeskill timeline (and no plans to have one available before the expansion goes live).

    No carpenter recipes (yet)

    No signature quest (yet)

It's probably a good thing (for DBG, not me) that I had to pay them already.

I really am trying to keep an open mind and a positive outlook, especially since I know I've not really experienced a lot of the beta, but PoP is not making a good first impression.

What I have read on the beta forums, and tidbits on the general forums that don't get locked down, I have zero confidence in this expansion.

That they have no tradeskill quests at all, and no expansion signature quest is bad enough, but that they haven't even chosen the art for the carpenter recipes yet? That's just mind boggling. How do you make it to a beta launch without even having settled all the assets?

The state it's in looks more like what would be an in-house QA test. A month before the projected launch of an expansion should be for ironing out the last few bugs you can, and stress testing zones (which you'll never get with the 'pay us to test' method they've switched to) - not desperately trying to actually finish the meager content you managed.

I thought the mess that was KA was as bad as it could get, looks like I was wrong.

I may be misreading it, but PoP has the feeling of a "last hurrah". Not saying it will be a good or bad "last hurrah". Who knows, PoP could be awesome, and be followed by dozens of epic expansions that raise EQ2 to lofty heights, where player attacks do approximately 6,326,432,613,114,467,714,671,467,989,133,678 points of damage per hit! And I could win Powerball this year, and live a life of luxury!

On a more sombre note, I have a feeling that if PoP does not do well, the EQ2 team will receive further cutbacks. I do not believe the implications of that requires further explanation.

I agree. I kind of believe that eq2 is basically done. They are just trying to wring as much money out of it as they can.

Wether it's this year, next or three years from now, I just can't envision the game surviving much longer. As soon as CN's metrics say it's time to kill it, it's done.

This expansion is really gonna tick off the crafting and deco crowd, and they even managed to royally piss off the event folks this year.

I can't help that feel some of the devs are actually trying to bring this death about sooner rather than later. Who knows, maybe they're just tired of it and want to dev something else.

I know some peeps really enjoy the beta testing. But.....i have never understood their willingness to buy the game up front to do it.

I mean, I guess if you know you're going to buy the game anyway, maybe. But given the quality of the game the last few years, just why?

Well, to each their own. I have noticed the chatter on the beta forums is a heck of a lot less than it has been in recent years. Makes me wonder if many people at all ponied up.

To be fair, I never approach any video game as being "forever". And I would expect nothing less than a company to try making as much money as they can from their product, while it is viable. Unfortunately for EQ2, their ambition for making money is rising at the time the quality of product is falling.

It would be all but impossible to argue against EQ2 being on a downhill trajectory. And I agree with your sentiment about CN, they are not going to keep EQ2 up because they love the EQ franchise. When the day comes, they will drop the axe and it will be done and dusted. It could be 1 year away, or 6 years away, but unless PoP is some kind of miracle expansion, it feels more inevitable rather than distant.

As for Devs trying to bring the death of EQ2 sooner? I have often wondered the exact same thing. But I find this quote gives some interesting insight, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". I believe it entirely likely the poor Devs that remain are simply in over their heads in a system they don't fully understand, for a game they don't fully understand.

This was from Discord just a little bit ago. I actually have pre-ordered and am beta testing, but I was still under the assumption that there would be spell consolidations.

It's pretty safe to say at this point that they've lost the vast majority of the 'hard core' raider crowd they once had, and are well on the way to losing most of what's left of the 'casual' raiders due to guild attrition.

They've offered less and less new holiday stuff each year. Even a lot of the craftables are just recolors of previous years (which I don't mind if there is also new stuff) or from dungeon maker. And with other titles now offering more robust holiday events...

One of the last rabidly loyal bastions the game has is the decorators/crafters, for various reasons. Again with other titles offering equal to better housing/decorating...
