On the upside, I believe that is the first time I've seen Kander apologize for anything.

    Nice to see the communication.

The harvesting tier stuff is a load of nonsense.

    Edit:
Regarding the harvestables, he makes it pretty clear the changes were made to accommodate stuff in the future.

Nice to see I guess, but I don't believe a word of it.
Also nice to see he's mastered the art of talking without saying anything. Must of learned that from our favourite gggrrr bark gnoll.
He's only posted to shut up some of the whining.

absolutely ridiculous, but they took the same approach with the food in solo's so no surprise here.

I guess they better come up with something to do with essence of chaos now, what a crock of crap.

Yeah.. 'stuff in the future' meaning 'it's easier if we don't have to pay any attention to descriptions on harvestables'

What the literal **** is wrong with them?

That is so mind bogglingly stupid it made me swear.

How does anyone on The Team think that is an adequate explanation, or a good idea?

They probably ran it by the fan poodles in discord and got head pats.
I doubt they could come up with a good idea between the lot of them.

EQ1 has not had levels or descriptions for mats or components for the last 20 years. Welcome to the big leagues.

The change may encourage players to seek out fan-run websites for information in the same way EQ1 players are forced to go to EQTraders, EQResource, and Allakhazam. I know several EQ1 players who subscribe or donate to these sites. This may help Feldon (EQ2Wire) and others with page hits and other support. (I say this sincerely). :)

It may also help with immersion and roleplay.

The two statements in this post are 100% contradictory.
"People may be required to use out of game resources"
    and
    "It may help with immersion"

Those two statements are 100% opposed. Anything that requires players to use out of game resources BREAKS game immersion by forcing players to step out of the game.

I'm not here to debate today. The system works on EQ1. You don't necessarily need to seek outside resources with in-game helps (recipe books or quest text) or in-game community (ask other players). For prolific tradeskillers (which is a requirement for the EQ1 end game now), websites speed things up. I don't see anything wrong with choosing one path (no or limited in-game helps) or another (help from fan-run websites).

I closed Beta tested EQ1 and still play. I ran Caster's Realm when Baelish flew the coop and was a mod before that. I'm still friends with Sk8er Gnome. He builds sailboats in Newport News, we have Thanksgiving together some years.

Nobody cares about any of that just like nobody cares about your EQ1 comparisons. Different game.

There seems to be more work sharing between the EQ1 and EQ2 dev teams than ever before. Perhaps, there’s an internal initiative to blend aspects of EQ1 and EQ2 for efficiency (workflow, resourcing) or for strengths.

Oh, and just to bring it full circle, conspiracy theories and all that, I just spent a week with Samanna and his wife at their cabin in NC. He's my sponsor for the Masons and The Odd Fellows.

Once again, nobody cares, that's EQ1 stuff. Different game.

Honestly, the convenience and wealth of knowledge from fan sites (like EQ2Wire) really can mitigate the lack of in-game helps.

It seems as though they are fixing the solo zone food/drink issue, but are changing the solo buffing mechanic.
Will be interesting to see how it changes doing solo zones once the update is done.

I read that note as "we just want to copy/paste descriptions from earlier tiers and not having to go back and update them to the new tier, we need to save time".

Understandable fix if you are over worked and don't have enough hours in the day to fix all the problems that the game have. I would have done the same thing if I was a dev at DBG.

Edit: To clarify, I don't think it is a good change, just a reflection of the reality that the small crew faces.

But why take out useful (and correct) information from existing game resources rather then just the broken ones.. or simply not include the information going forward.

There is no logical, sensible or customer benifiting reason for this change.

So all harvest resources have the same "look and feel" maybe?

I agree, there is no customer benefiting reasons for it.

Yeah. Admittedly I am ignorant to the ways of mmorpg programming. Still, I can't help but think, is it really that big a deal to paste/attach one short sentence to 20ish database objects?

No. This is about something else they have going on.

Could be something as trivial as they don't have a working tool, and hey, 6 minutes is 6 minutes.

Can't use the Q&A excuse 'cause well, people like Mermut.

More than likely, they just don't give a crap cause TS is being trivialized in general.

    A few thoughts.

One, EQ and EQ2 are not just somewhat different games. Almost everything about them, including crafting and resources, is a different design. The main thing they share in common is lore and they can't even do that right. This is like comparing apples to a glioblastoma.

Two, I wonder if this change was done in this way because it was easier and took them less resources. If they could just remove certain chunks of data somehow, maybe even in a semi-automated way, they 'fix' their problem without much hassle.

Three, maybe someone informed Kandie that it's almost more important to give people the impression that you care than it is to actually care. You don't even have to care for real so long as the target audience is conned into choking down what you're selling.

Four, the OF is even more depressing and claustrophobic now. I wish I hadn't spent time there earlier. This is like watching someone keep a sick dog alive instead of being humane and putting it out of its misery.

In typical Daybreak fashion they go for the easiest solution even when it's the worst one.
