Yeah the BBC in the UK published a similar piece, I do hope, and this is more hope than expectation, that the legislation will force the game companies to step away from loot boxes. Game companies will keep using them unless forced not to... because they work in generating money

I'd say the number is higher than 40% and "rich" is a relative term anyway. I remember some guy posting on the OF that he had bought 1000s of crates trying to get a Merc or mount or something. It's been awhile. Either way it's troublesome. That being said, some of these folks just need to get a better handle on their finances. I'm for sure not rich but I could afford to spend $1000s on EQ1/2 and it wouldn't affect me in any real way. I just prefer to gamble in an actual casino and there's not much of anything, in either version of the game, that I want to gamble on. Of course EQ2 is different than 1 since it is absolutely pay to win whereas in 1 there's nothing that is going to give you an advantage that you can buy from the marketplace.

I live not to far from Ferguson, MO in a fairly diverse neighborhood that has gone from upper to barely qualifying as lower middle class in the last 30 years or so. It is so unbelievably common for me to walk to the corner store and find myself in line behind someone who's buying dozens of scratch off tickets. People who clearly should not be wasting their money like that, yet they do. If I can see people in the real world acting like this and justifying it to themselves why would I be surprised to find people doing it in a game where the circumstances can be more rigged and manipulative?

I would not consider myself well off. I would also call myself a "whale". That's why Tekka and I have set gaming budgets for ourselves. I've been saying for years that there's no such thing as a good loot crate. I would happily buy a digital item from a game store if I have the money to do so that month, but buying a chance to maybe get that item in a (pile of) loot crate(s)? I don't play the lottery either.

Sadly my post on the offical forums, pointing to this research has been deleted... guess there is not going to be any change to our loot boxes

I'm assuming a ninja delete w/o explanation too?

Yeah exactly, tried to be non confrontational with it to... guess they don't want to discuss it

Of course not, but dealing with it this way seems to me to be a great admission of culpability. :D

Regulations are coming, its only a matter of time before they get restricted. EQ2 will have to close down because thats about all they know how to produce anymore..imo quality programing left many moons ago with this game.
